Lexus lemon law attorney in California
Owners of Lexus RX, ES, NX, and GX vehicles filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describing air bag malfunctions, electrical system failures, service brake problems, and engine issues. The most frequently reported categories include air bag warning lights tied to occupant sensor defects, electrical failures affecting power windows and display systems, service brake system concerns, and engine performance loss. When a defect substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of a vehicle and the manufacturer or its dealers cannot repair it within a reasonable number of attempts, California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act may require the manufacturer to replace the vehicle or refund its purchase price.

What Lexus owners report, and why repeat repairs matter
These are the categories owners file most often with the federal safety regulator for the Lexus model years in the record below. A complaint is one owner's report, not a finding that a vehicle is defective.
Air Bag Warning Lights and Occupant Sensor Failures
Owners report air bag malfunction warning lights and seat belt warnings that illuminate without cause. The regulator recorded complaints describing SRS alerts and passenger air bag indicators. Toyota recalled certain RX and ES models for a short circuit in the occupant classification sensor that may prevent the passenger air bag from deploying. When a safety defect persists after two repair attempts, California law treats the claim more favorably. Repeat visits for the same air bag warning strengthen a case.

Electrical System Malfunctions
Electrical system complaints describe power window failures, shattered rear glass, and display screen malfunctions. Owners report windows closing unexpectedly without input, frozen or blank rearview camera screens, and software update problems that obstruct vehicle information. Multiple recall campaigns address rearview camera display failures caused by software errors or incorrect programming. Electrical defects that require repeated diagnostic visits often meet the statute's substantial impairment test, particularly when the dealer cannot isolate the root cause or when a repair does not hold.

Service Brake System Concerns
Owners filed complaints about service brake system performance. One report mentions a vacuum pump service bulletin that affects brake system vacuum generation. Brake system defects often involve multiple diagnostic cycles because intermittent symptoms are difficult to reproduce during a dealer visit. Under Song-Beverly, the manufacturer must have a reasonable opportunity to repair, but when brake-related concerns persist across four or more repair attempts for a non-safety defect or two for a safety defect, the claim may meet the statute's standard.

Engine Stalling and Performance Loss
Engine complaints describe sudden loss of power, slowing while driving, and fuel system sensor failures. Owners report high-pressure fuel pump failures confirmed by diagnostic trouble codes and vehicles that slow unexpectedly during operation. Engine defects that cause a vehicle to lose power on the road present a clear safety risk. When an engine performance complaint requires multiple repair visits without a permanent fix, the pattern of failed attempts becomes central to a Song-Beverly claim.

Rearview Camera Display Failures
The regulator issued several recall campaigns for rearview camera systems that freeze, display blank screens, or fail to show an image when the vehicle is in reverse. Software errors in the panoramic view monitor system and parking assist electronic control unit cause the display failures. Federal rear visibility standards require a functioning rearview image. When a recall repair is performed but the camera display problem returns, the subsequent repair attempts count toward the reasonable opportunity limit under California law.

Advanced Driver Assistance System Failures
Owners report forward collision avoidance and lane departure system failures, including blind spot monitoring that becomes completely inoperative and dashboard warning lights that illuminate then go dark. One report describes blind spot indicators that activate too late to allow safe lane changes. Safety system failures that require repeat diagnosis often involve software calibration or sensor replacement issues. Each repair attempt that fails to resolve the underlying fault adds to the count under Song-Beverly's reasonable opportunity standard.

The statute
When a Lexus problem becomes a lemon
These are the presumptions in the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act and the Tanner Consumer Protection Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1793.22). Each applies when the defect is first reported, and the vehicle is presented for warranty repair, within 18 months of delivery or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first. They are presumptions, not predictions about any individual vehicle.
A
Two or more attempts (safety)
For a defect that could cause death or serious injury, reported within 18 months or 18,000 miles.
B
Four or more attempts
For the same non-safety warranty problem, reported within 18 months or 18,000 miles.
C
30 days out of service
Cumulative, for warranty repair, within 18 months or 18,000 miles.
